How Dubai Shapes the Music
Dubai’s contribution to Arab music is infrastructure. The streaming era’s regional headquarters sit here, the Gulf’s biggest indoor stage hosts the world’s tours, and Khaleeji pop royalty, Ahlam and Diana Haddad among them, long ago made the city a base. It is where the business of Arabic music gets done.
The unfinished part is the grassroots. The Fridge in Alserkal Avenue has programmed locally based original music since 2007, a cultural-visa system courts creative talent, and the industry’s visual engine room of creative directors works from here. Whether the city converts hosting into homegrown scenes is the region’s most-watched experiment.
