Yemeni-Emirati singer who turned Khaleeji pop stardom into one of the region's biggest solo careers.
Balqees Ahmed Fathi grew up inside Yemeni music royalty — her father is the oud master Ahmed Fathi — and built her own career from Dubai into one of the Gulf's defining pop voices. Her 2013 debut Majnoun announced her; Zay Ma Ana became one of the most downloaded albums in the Middle East on release.
She was the first Middle Eastern artist honored with a wax figure at Madame Tussauds Dubai — a marker of how completely Khaleeji pop has become part of the city's mainstream cultural identity.
