How London Shaped the Music
London built the first industry pipeline for Arab-Western fusion. Nation Records and the Transglobal Underground orbit gave Natacha Atlas the machinery for ‘Diaspora’ in 1995, the city’s world-music infrastructure professionalised what other capitals treated as novelty, and 47SOUL made London shamstep’s operating base.
The city’s Arab creative gravity extends past music. Zaha Hadid, Mona Hatoum and a deep literary diaspora made London the anglophone reference point for Arab culture, and that density feeds the sound: promoters, festivals and a bilingual audience that lets Arabic-language acts tour on their own terms.
