Palestinian singer, oud and buzuq player, and the institution-builder behind eka3 and Mostakell — a one-man infrastructure for independent Arabic music.
Born in Cairo to a Palestinian family, Tamer Abu Ghazaleh is both one of alternative Arabic music's defining voices and one of its chief architects. His albums — including Thulth (2016) and Lekhfa (2017), the celebrated collaboration with Maryam Saleh and Maurice Louca — twist classical Arabic instrumentation into restless, genre-crossing songcraft. Off stage he founded eka3 in 2007, the incubator behind the label Mostakell, and co-founded the music magazine Ma3azef, building the distribution, publishing and criticism that the region's independent scene lacked. He is also a member of the band Alif.
