Sinkane

Sinkane is the project of Ahmed Gallab, born in London to Sudanese parents and raised in Ohio after early childhood in Sudan. Before going solo he drummed for Caribou, of Montreal, and Yeasayer — an indie apprenticeship that shows in the precision of his own records.

Across albums from Mars to We Belong, Sinkane folds Sudanese pop and haqiba melody into funk, krautrock, and gospel-scale choruses. Gallab also served as bandleader of the Atomic Bomb! Band, the all-star ensemble performing the music of William Onyeabor.
