How Berlin Shapes the Music
Berlin’s role arrived late and from two directions at once. The club city gave Arab electronic artists floors and bookings their home scenes could not, and the post-2015 arrivals seeded a working exile capital of Syrian and Palestinian musicians. Haifa-born Rasha Nahas writes her rock here, and diaspora collectives turned identity into club programming.
The other direction is archival. Berlin’s reissue culture, Habibi Funk above all, put out-of-print Arab funk, jazz and pop back into global circulation, resetting how a generation heard the region’s past. Between the dancefloor and the archive, Berlin became Europe’s unexpected gateway for Arab sound.
