Khebez Dawle

Khebez Dawle ('government bread') formed around singer Anas Maghrebi in Damascus as the war closed in — the band's original drummer, an activist, was killed before they regrouped in Beirut to record their self-titled debut.

In 2015 the band crossed to Europe along the refugee route, famously handing copies of their album to the people who met their boat on a Lesbos beach. They eventually settled in Berlin, where they became one of the defining acts of the city's Arab music diaspora — a rock band that insists the label 'refugee' is a circumstance, not a genre.
