Mohammed Assaf's win on Arab Idol received worldwide coverage and was celebrated across the Arab world. He was named a UNRWA goodwill ambassador for peace and ambassador of culture and arts by the Palestinian government. His story inspired the 2015 Hany Abu-Assad film The Idol, and his song Ana Dammi Falastini remains one of his best known recordings.
