A French rapper of Algerian heritage whose politically charged lyrics on migration, Islamophobia, and French identity have made him one of the country's most influential MCs.

Médine Zaouiche has spent his career as part of the hip hop collective La Boussole, writing lyrics that confront the lived experience of Muslims and migrants in France with a directness that has drawn both a devoted following and, at points, national controversy.

His essay for Time magazine following the 2005 French riots, titled “How Much More French Can I Be,” captured the central tension running through his entire body of work.
