Menna Shanab is an Egyptian-American music journalist based in Cairo, writing about the Arab world’s new wave for a global readership. She is the music editor at YUNG, the MENA art, fashion, and culture magazine, and her byline runs across the region’s leading English-language outlets: a Rolling Stone MENA cover story on Moroccan rapper Small X (2025), GQ Middle East features on Dana Salah and Egyptian rapper Lella Fadda (2025), WIRED Middle East’s “The Return of Arab Funk” (2024), and early SceneNoise reporting on the majors’ arrival in Arabic music. Close to Cairo’s underground scene, she closed the first season of afikra’s Shik Shak Shook Ones podcast in 2025, arguing for authenticity and sustainable local infrastructure against an industry chasing content saturation.
